As 2018 is coming to an end, we would like to review an outstanding year for Black Horse One. With innovative, thought-out ideas and our amazing partners, we surely made a significant difference in the international Dressage World.
Black Horse One was founded in 2014 by Daniel Göhlen to continue working on an idea initially brought up by the renowned 5* judge Katrina Wüst and elaborated with all stakeholders. Bringing additional transparency and standardization in dressage freestyles set the foundation for Black Horse One. Meanwhile, the FEI Freestyle System is the official scoring system for the Dressage World Cup™ in the Western European League for the third continuous season. Since the beginning of 2018, the DoD System is publicly available to any shows with a Grand Prix Freestyle test (CDI3* and above as well as CDIU25) and has been used by some of the most prestigious shows worldwide.
The well-established Spectator Judging® app co-innovated with SAP spread tremendously amongst horse enthusiasts all over the globe. More than 50.000 app downloads are the result of applying the app at over 60 horse shows in 2018. Now over 1.000 competitions were enriched by the app and fans all over the world were drawn closer to the sport and often even came to the venues to judge along.
The latest innovation, the Spectator Judging® League with the flagship FEI eLeague, powered by SAP, draws Spectator Judges even closer into the action. App users gain points for judging the Western European Dressage World Cup™ season 2018/2019. The overall winner will be announced at the last qualifier in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and will win an exclusive trip to the FEI World Cup™ Final in Gothenburg 2019. Plane tickets, Hotel and VIP treatment included.
We are very proud to work on eDressage, a revolutionary paperless dressage scoring software that was already highly celebrated in 2018 for its cost reduction, communication and education advantages. eDressage is built on our experience and the feedback and visions of many international judges. eDressage runs on iPads and is very intuitive and easy to handle for judges and scribes. Judges sign the scoresheet using an Apple Pencil and the result is determined within seconds after the final salute of the rider. Significantly fewer people are needed since there is only one scribe per judge and no score checking is needed. Riders and spectators celebrate the scores straight away and the prize-giving ceremony can now take place right after the last rider finishes the test. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from all parties involved motivates us tremendously to further pursue this project. eDressage is already implemented in the FEI Dressage World Cup™ in the Western European League and we are working with the FEI to make eDressage available on a larger scale.
We would like to thank everyone for their continuous support, appreciation and for making the journey of bringing Dressage to the 21st century a major success.
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Daniel and the Black Horse One Team
